Skill Level: Beginner (participants should ideally already know how to use a sewing machine)

After this class, you’ll be able to shorten your own jeans, classic trousers, or school uniforms like a pro — saving yourself time, money, and repeated trips to the alteration shop.

Whether you bring your own trousers or use the ones we provide, you’ll walk away with practical, confidence-boosting sewing skills. Perfect for beginners with basic sewing-machine experience.

MEET YOUR TUTOR – KAMILA KULDASHEVA:

Kamila is a skilled dressmaker with over 20 years of sewing experience. Originally from Uzbekistan, Kamila enjoys creating complex, detail-focused pieces. Her work has been showcased at Tashkent Fashion Show and she has gained teaching experience working for sewing schools in Ireland. Kamila is passionate about sharing her skills and encouraging creativity in her students.

TECHNIQUES COVERED:

• Double-fold hem (standard hem)
• Original hem preservation (jean hem)
• Invisible hem (classic trousers)

This is a practical class and you will complete each of the techniques on your own trousers/jeans or a practice pair. 

GAIN CONFIDENCE IN:

• Understanding differences between trouser fabrics: denim, wool, cotton, stretch varieties
• How to determine final length
• Measuring and marking the new hemline
  
• Working with thick seams / bulky material
• Sewing a straight, even line
• Ironing / pressing techniques
• Troubleshooting: uneven hems, fabric distortion, thread tension issues
• When to choose each hemming method

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR:

This class is suitable for anyone who already knows how to use a sewing machine and is able to sew straight stitches and maintain an even seam allowance.

• Tuition, tea, coffee and biscuits.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING: 

• A working sewing machine
  
• Invisible hem presser foot for your machine (if you have one)
• Trousers or Jeans that require hemming (if you have any)
• Polyester thread, thread snips, sewing pins, seam ripper/un-picker*

*Marked items are also available to purchase on the night.

A limited number of sewing machines are available to rent. Please get in touch to reserve one in advance.

• Unfortunately our workshops are non refundable. Your place can be transferred to a friend but this is only for events that have not yet started. 
• We reserve the right to reschedule undersubscribed courses. We will try to give as much notice as possible for events that need to be rescheduled. 
• In the unlikely event that we are forced to cancel a workshop, we will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or swap your booking to another suitable date.
