ADULT BEGINNER – Introduction to Sewing – Starts 4th March

6 Week Course – Introduction to Sewing for Complete Beginners

Do you have a sewing machine at home, but don’t know where to start? Does threading your machine just feel like a crazy logic puzzle? Are you bamboozled by the variety of needles, threads and fabrics? Then this course is for you! 

Over the course of six weeks, participants will get to know their sewing machine, learn about different fabrics and their uses, and de-mystify some of the tools and accessories you might need when sewing. You’ll go home with some projects you’ve created during the course, but more importantly, with the confidence and knowledge to try more projects yourself at home.

All materials are provided, including fabrics and thread, as well as a useful handout of handy tips, and a selection pack of sewing machine needles to take home at the end of the course, so you can be ready to try out your new skills!

The course runs every Wednesday evening, beginning on 4th March.

Max class size 8 students.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: 

• Lesson 1: Get to know your machine. Threading, presser feet, basic stitching.

• Lesson 2: Basic sewing using straight lines. Make a tote bag with french seams.

• Lesson 3: Sewing curves and zips. Make a lined zip pouch with curved corners.

• Lesson 4: Introduction to commercial sewing patterns.

• Lesson 5 + 6: Make a t-shirt to perfectly fit YOU! 
  

MEET YOUR TUTOR – ELEANOR LEADBETTER: 

Eleanor is the founder of Els-Bels Boutique, creating handcrafted handbags and accessories in Galway and across Ireland since 2021. A self-taught sewist who began machine sewing during lockdown, she understands the challenges beginners face and is passionate about helping others overcome their fear and start sewing with confidence.

COST INCLUDES:

• All participants receive notes with helpful tips, and suggestions for further learning.
  

WHAT TO BRING: 

• A working sewing machine 
  Please bring along your manual and any accessories that came with your machine.
  
• Basic Sewing Kit: Thread snips, tailors chalk/pencil or water soluble fabric marker, sewing pins, seam ripper/un-picker*
  

*Items can also be purchased in store.

Don’t have a sewing machine?

A limited number of sewing machines are available to rent. Please note, rented machines are for use in class only.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

• If you need to cancel this course one month prior to start date a full refund will be given less third party payment provider fees, two weeks prior to the course a 50% refund will be given. After that time there is no refund given. Your place can be transferred to a friend but this is only for events that have not yet started. You cannot send someone in your place half way through a course.
• We reserve the right to reschedule undersubscribed courses. We will try to give as much notice as possible for events that need to be rescheduled. In the unlikely situation that the event is cancelled you will receive as much notice as possible. We will try to make the event up in the future on the same day and time. 
• Should Fabric Romance cancel a course or individual class and we are unable to reschedule, a full refund will be made within 10 business days, however, a refund will not be issued for any classes cancelled due to extreme weather conditions or any other event beyond our control.
