Skill Level: Intermediate

Join us for a fun, hands-on day learning the basics of pattern cutting and how to make patterns work for you. This class is perfect for home sewers and dressmaking enthusiasts who want to take their skills to the next level.

You’ll get to grips with simple but essential techniques like moving darts, slashing and spreading, and adjusting pattern pieces properly. Using a basic half-scale block as your starting point, you’ll learn how to tweak and adapt it to create different pattern styles.

By the end of the day, you'll have a better understanding of how patterns work—and the confidence to start shaping them to suit your own ideas and designs.

GAIN CONFIDENCE IN:

  • Adapting a basic block to create your own pattern designs
  • Moving darts around a pattern using rotation techniques
  • Turning darts into gathers or pleats for a softer, more relaxed shape
  • Turning darts into princess seams for a more tailored fit
  • Understanding and using the slash-and-spread method to add fullness, such as frills or flares
  • Adjusting pattern pieces properly without distorting the fit (length, width, etc.)
  • Changing a set in sleeve to a raglan sleeve.
  • Practicing pattern cutting techniques on half-scale blocks

This is a hands-on, practical session where you'll create a selection of samples using half-scale blocks that let you focus on mastering specific techniques before applying them to a full project.

Request a Swatch/Sample

We understand that buying fabric online can be tricky. Pictures and words can only convey so much about a fabric and sometimes you just need to see and feel a fabric to know if it will work for your project.

For that reason we are offering a swatch service:  >>>  Click here  <<<
